In this age of electronic music and instruments depending on software and computer to play here is a really refreshing change. Harm Goslink Kuiper has released a new album called Stil Leven and he has used home made guitars, banjos, diddley bows and other stringed instruments. Like home cooked food it is wholesome and nourishing. The sounds created by the natural instruments are delightful and inspiring.
Maybe some people might find his self made instruments chunky or not as smart looking as the manufactured ones. But the intonation and the quality of the sound produced is amazing and inspiring. I sincerely hope that the response to this album is so good that it triggers a trend of using more and more natural home made instruments. It will bring a more melodious trend into music that you can sit back and enjoy.
Goslink's new instruments has already generated a lot of curiosity among music lovers. Everyone wants to know what material he uses to create these instruments. It seems evident that that he uses old fruit crates for the bodies of the instruments. For the neck he generally uses an old threshold. His latest creation is even more innovative. He has created a double bass which he has made out of violin and guitar bodies.
