There has been no pricing information for the officially licensed Lamborghini Renventon RC car, but it would definitely be much inexpensive than $1.2 million of the actual car.

“Air-Clean” Paving Slabs Help in Reducing Nitrogen Oxide in the Atmosphere and Improve Air Quality

Germany has been facing the problem of air pollution owing to concentration of nitrogen oxide surpassing the maximum permitted levels. Sources suggest that the road traffic is the principle reason behind soaring levels of this harmful gas. The Baroque City of Fulda in Hesse took the baton of fighting air pollution and came up innovative paving slabs that reduce the amount of nitrogen oxide in the air.

These special paving slabs would come coated in titanium dioxide nanoparticles which would convert harmful substances such as nitrogen oxides into nitrates. Titanium dioxide being a photocatalyst utilizes sunlight to accelerate a naturally occurring chemical reaction. The slabs would be first laid through the length of Petersberger Straße where pollution levels are recorded above the annual mean limit of of 40 micrograms per cubic meter.

The innovative "Air Clean" paving slabs were developed by F. C. Nüdling Betonelemente and the project has been funded by the German Environment Foundation. These slabs were previously used in Italian cities and results showed that they help in improving air quality.

The U.S. group Time Warner would have closed the purchase of the Chilean Chilevisión television channel, controlled by President Sebastián Piñera, local press reports today.

According to local newspaper El Mercurio, Time Warner would be willing to “pay between 140 and 150 million dollars for control” for Chilevisión.

Asked about the operation late on Monday by TV channel CNN en Español, Pinera said he hoped “this information is confirmed very soon.”

“It is in the hands of a financial institution, and I’m waiting for this news with the same anxiety, the same enthusiasm that you,” Piñera said.

Time Warner operates channels such as CNN, HBO, Cinemax, Turner Classic Movies, TNT and Cartoon Network.

The Mercury indicated that the operation would be confirmed “in the coming hours the team that led the sale process,” composed by Larrain Vial, financial advisors selling party and Bancard, which is the company’s investment Piñera.

Harvard Student Designs Mobile Ethnic Garden Intends to Bring People Together

When operating on a global platform, it is of utmost importance that one understands and is sensitive to cultural differences. Online research and talking to locals could be one of the ways, but exploring and sharing foods from different culinary traditions could be an offbeat method to experience other cultures. This is exactly what a few students at Harvard University realized and came up with the concept of Mobile Ethnic Garden.

A bunch of architecture students planted some Korean fruits and vegetables in their mobile garden. A student by name Christina Cho was the one who conceptualized this idea of the garden that would bring people from different cultural groups together. A network of raised planter beds set on wheels was arranged by her. The beds would double as benches thus forming a conversation piece which offered visitors a place to gather and interact. The garden's mobility made it easier for the plans to capitalize on sunlight whereas the raised beds helped in reducing soil compaction and water conservation and drainage.

The student used salvaged wood to make the wheel garden and was debuted in the spring with a planting party at the Graduate School of Design.

Coca Cola Camp Uses Facebook “Like” Option to Gain Online Footage

The latest swirl in the marketing scenario is using the Facebook "like" option to gain visibility and fan following. Almost everybody brand which is trying to gain footage and popularity have installed Flike option on their web pages. But the Coca-Cola Village Camp in Israel went a step further. The summer camp treated the teens with a plethora of their Coca Cola products and other activities. Different segments of the camp were integrated with the camp-goers Facebook accounts and they could actually "like" different parts of the camp.

Well, this is a clever yet over-the-roof strategy to garner attention on social networking websites. Upon entry, teens were given an RFID chip embedded bracelet synched to their Facebook account. A small RFID equipped station was used to communicate with the bracelet. It would automatically update the camper's status with a message referring to the event or activity. Moreso even camp pictures were auto-tagged every time the subjects brought their bracelet in contact with the photographer’s camera post-snapshot.

Coca-Cola's aggressive marketing even kept their parents updated as to what their child was doing at the camp. So I guess it was a win-win situation for both the brand and then camp-goers.

Earthquake Proof Bed Given a Patent in China

The frequency of natural disasters around the world has seen an alarming increase. The scale at which the natural calamity strikes is also going up. Each disaster seems to be of a greater magnitude than the previous one. China had witnessed an earth quake of a very high magnitude which had resulted in many deaths and casualties because the debris could not be removed quickly enough. Perhaps these incidents motivated a Chinese man named Wang Wenxi to design an innovative bed that could help earth quake victims to survive.

Wang has been granted a patent for the design of his earthquake-proof bed. The bed with modular furniture, including cupboards, at each end is designed to automatically turn into a strong box to help people survive an earthquake. The high tech bed has a high load bearing board and in case of the natural calamity the components of the bed automatically combine to form a strong box.

It is suggested that the cupboard attached to the bed must always be stored with things necessary for survival so that the victim can survive under the debris for several days before being rescued. The bed is no doubt very good as an insurance against an earthquake but since it will be in use on a regular basis it would be beneficial to add some entertainment options to the bed.

It must have been difficult challenge to come up with creating design plans to save the day when sea levels will rise and drown vulnerable nations because of global warming. International Urban Sea Level Rise Ideas competition for Sydney Harbour had many interesting entries and winners but the co-winner idea – The Embassy of Drowned Nations Concept Plan hits at the right painful nerve.

The basic concept plan is to build a sunken city off Sydney Harbour which will be blend of Atlantis and Eden something like Ellis Island. Such islands will be refuge for displaced population of drowned nations who will then later integrate into harbour nation as refugees and migrants with no roots. It is very sad but true that the reality is not very far when citizens from Maldives and Venice will need transitional homes because we cannot reverse climate change, sea levels will rise with global warming and angry sea will engulf land.

It is very futuristic and real concept indeed because there will be need of Embassy of Drowned Nations too in few decades. The silver lining is, these ideas give hope that for every drowning home there will be a savior.

It is very disturbing that dark competitions are being held to create awareness but darker question is, does collective humanity (which is enjoying state of amnesia and bliss) really care about the planet and future of vulnerable countries? Can we stop the deluge?

Pendant Shaped GPS Navigation System with Sixth Sense Technology Will Aid in Finding One’s Way in Airport Scenarios

When speaking of a navigation system our minds quickly drift away to those embedded on car decks or bikes which help us to reach our destination. The newest additions in the lineup of navigation devices are the ones which cling to the user's body and help one with respect to local streets and towns. Among other designers who have experimented with this concept, Benjamin Peterson, an industrial design student from Washington came out with a pendant lookalike gadget that hangs in front of one's chest.

The pendant is designed to make travel easy in unknown territory and makes use of Pranav Mistry's Sixth Sense Technology, a gestural recognition software system. The embedded camera in the pendant will identify the user's hand movements and tell him in which direction he needs to proceed based on his position. The designers suggest such a model will be helpful in airport scenarios. Most of the airports that I have come across both international and domestic are idiot-proof with their board signs and airline staff. It's probably the language issue which these guys are trying to tackle here.

Anyway, the Pendant Navigation system has a built-in processor and projector to bring out its capabilities. No word on how soon this concept will be hitting the retail shelves.

Robots or manmade machines' taking care of our chores wasn't unheard of. But summoning a robot to undo the damage done by mankind is really offbeat. So here we have a Tree Planting Robot with a mission to avoid an environmental apocalypse.

Designed for reforestation projects, the robot is capable of carrying as much as 320 seedlings, each stored in a biodegradable plastic to avoid damage by plant eating insects. It is equipped with hot stream to destroy competing vegetation like weeds and choking vines that do not make any value addition to the environment.

The robot can be programmed to plant in patterns just in case one is up for a beautification sort of a thing. Since people are contemplating moon as an alternative to earth, these machines could be used to create a perfect habitat. Too bad the growth duration of trees is in control of the mankind. I like the intention behind this project for it actually acknowledges that mere talks and conferences or whimsical industrial designs cannot handle the impeding problem of Global warming.

The DJ console is about to add a brand new member to its family of high tech devices, so you brace yourself to experience an unparallel concoction of music as its only going to get better. The Multi Touch DJ light table shown in the picture is not just another fancy schmancy interface, it could give birth to an altogether different genre of music as it mimics two turn tables.

Designer Gerg Kaufman is to thank for this discovery, as DJ’ing is never going to be the same with this table. As you can see in the picture, this one offers two turn tables along with a music mixer and thus, a DJ can maintain an uninterrupted contact with the crowd without facing any problems. This concept has not been introduced everywhere, but I am sure once it is commercialized; it will spread like a wild forest fire!

All one needs is his private flash drive to run the Multi Touch DJ light table and there will be no hassles involved like carrying a case full of CDs. The price has not been discussed yet, all we have to see is how well it fares in the market with that extravagant price tag, and with such features I am sure its going to be extravagant!

Another equally urband and smart bike is called NYC and has been designed by the Denmark based design house of Kibisi. The LDB frame has been made by carbon fiber, which automatically makes it much lighter than the bikes out there. Plus the hole in the frame reduces the weight even further and enables it to be hung from the wall as well.

The design of the body is in the wishbone style that gives it a certain unique yet stylish look. But apart from the aesthetics, this bike is custom made for the urban commuter. The other bike, NYC does not lag behind. This one has a carbon fiber belt drive instead of the traditional chain. By the way, most of the Biomega bikes do not have these chains.

NYC's aluminium down tube makes it reliable and smart looking at the same time. This one will be available from Spring 2011 onwards in Aspen Pearl White, African Yellow, Aluminum Silver and Dragon Black. The LDN will be available in Aspen Pearl White, African Yellow and Raw Carbon. This one is however built on order.

More than three thousand people gathered in the South side for this year's Puerto Rican Fest

Milwaukee - On Saturday, more than 3,000 people attended the one day Puerto Rican festival in Milwaukee's South side. The festival began at noon and ended at 9:00 p.m.
The forecast was cloudy and rained during the early part of the day and by noon the showers had stopped. Several hours later, it cleared up and became a cool Sunny day with temperatures in the 70's.  
Numerous years have gone by since the last Fiesta Boricua was organized in the City of Milwaukee.
This year's Puerto Rican Fest was organized by Cecil Negron on the 700 block of S. 4th St., next to the Bradley Technical High School. Portions of the proceeds will be donated to the Casa Romero Youth Programs, according to Negron.
The entertainment was provided by Cache, One Man Band Ray Rios, Bahia, S-Tilo, D'CalleSon and others.

Puebla, Coahuila, Mexico - The Mexican Department of National Defense (Sedena) announced that marines had captured Sergio Villareal Barragán, aka, "El Grande" on Sunday in Puebla. Barragán an alleged leader in the Beltrán Leyva Cartel was coming out around 10:00 a.m. of his residence in the neighborhood of San Pedro in the subdivision of Puerta de Hierro when he was taken into custody without incident.
Also arrested along with Barragán were Jesús Enrique Jurado Torres and Ramiro Cisneros Aguirre, according to Alejandro Poiré, Secretary of Federal Public Security. Poiré said, that at least 30 Marines, including a military helicopter was involved in Barragán's arrest. No ijuries were reported.
Several vehicles and weapons and ammunition was confiscated. Barragán was a former federal agent assigned to Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa, Tamaulipas. He later became a Judicial Police Officer in the State of Coahuila, before becomming a most wanted man in Mexico and the U.S.
Mexico was offering 30 million pesos ($2,307,692 U.S. dollars) for information leading to his arrest.
