The rivals employed different strategies, the Las Vegas Sun reported. Angle frequently addressed Reid by his first name -- "Man up, Harry Reid," she told him at one point. Reid was often scathing about Angle but never looked directly at her or mentioned her name.
Organizers of the debate at the PBS studio used four coin tosses to decide the details. Angle won all four and chose to stand stage right and to let Reid give the first opening statement and answer the first question, while reserving the final closing for herself.
While Reid accused his "opponent" of lying and holding extremist views, he also tried to spend time on substantive issues.
One of the most divisive was health care reform or, as Angle put it, "Obamacare," which she would like to repeal. Reid kept coming back to the subject, seeking to explain the healthcare plan and his views.
At one point, Angle asked Reid to explain how he became wealthy while a member of the Senate. Reid called that "a low blow" and said everyone knows he made his money as a successful lawyer.
