Give A Musical Send Of To The Demised With The All New Vinyl Ashes Records From And Vinyls Posted: 03 Sep 2010 06:30 AM PDT Music is immortal just like the soul of a being, a timeless and eternal entity that is forever remembered. Same can now be said in the case of those who cross the path of life and ascend to the heavens, as 'And Vinyls' a U.K based company is offering the relatives of those who have departed this mortal realm to cherish and preserve their memories, by turning their ashes into a vinyl record. These vinyl records can contain any number of tracks from a deceased's voice, their favorite tunes or their last will and testament. This incredible new concept is the brainchild of Jason Leach, who is also the founder of the firm, And Vinyls and is also the founder of some of the most established record labels, including House of Fix, Daftwerk and Death to Vinyl. One of the primary reasons for this innovative approach to a funeral by Mr. Leach, is the fact that, his mother worked at a funeral home and also the thought that, such an approach would make the whole process a bit more interesting. To create these unique records, the process involves the sprinkling of ashes onto a raw piece of vinyl, that is then pressed by the plates. Along with the vinyl ashes records, And Vinyl also offers personalized 'Rest in Vinyl' (RIY) artwork and the high end version of these artworks are designed by artist James Hague, using the ashes mixed with paint. The basic package of the vinyl ashes records come with a price tag of $3,086. Via Wired |

Nine million Britons have never accessed the internet Posted: 03 Sep 2010 02:58 AM PDT Although the Internet has gained millions of users in the last year, the concern now is for those who still do not access the network and may be excluded from being online benefits such as discounts and special services. More than 38 million British adults accessing the web, of which 30 million are connected every day. But most of senior citizens, widows and poor have never used the Internet, says the web site of The Telegraph, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the country. These nine million adults who do not use the internet – about 19% of the population – lost opportunities to save on various products and services – such as cars, holidays and insurance deals – why not use the price comparator, reports Engadget. Although not a calamity, the fact caught the attention of the government and the British prime minister, David Cameron, said that in the Internet era, we must ensure that people are not left behind, while services and online business becomes. To alleviate the problem, charities like Age UK created the “Internet Champions,” a group composed of six octogenarians that inspire and motivate older people to take risks in the online world. It’s a smart move as it would be a crime nowadays one does not know the difference between an e-mail and Google, the site says Geeky Gadgets. Via: Telegraph. |
Posted: 03 Sep 2010 02:48 AM PDT This Monday, the Viridity Energy announced it has received a fund of the Authority Energy Development from Pennsylvania to design a system that transforms the energy released by braking of trains entering the station into electrical energy. The system will collect energy in a big battery installed in the Market-Frankford line, which has 28 stations in nearly 21 km long. The stored energy is used to fuel the trains themselves when they leave the station and also return energy to the network. According to Audrey Zibelman, CEO of Viridity, the project is essentially an electric micronets, integrated with the transmission network and to optimize operating and providing greater efficiency and economy to the subway system in Philadelphia. The CNET site explains that the battery may also generate some financial return for SEPTA, the company that runs the subway system in Pennsylvania. The use of battery power can help in other parts of the electric grid, reducing operating costs. The idea of using energy normally wasted during braking and vibration is not new. Indeed, it seems a waste to spend energy to make (eg) a lift to go up and down – the latter operation could be used to recharge batteries with the engine turned into event. The SEPTA system should come into activity in the first half of 2011 and should greatly reduce the expenses of operating the line, since when the trains use battery power to leave the station, the utility power will be cut.
